Since I last posted on the topic, David Rohde has continued posting on his captivity under the Taliban. And I’m going to continue talking about it.
Rodhe was held in Miram Shah in Pakistan, a town not far from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, in a region that is, according to my Oil, Islam, and Geopolitics AI, a pretty blurry area. Officially, Miram Shah is in Pakistan, but the border there is more recognized globally than locally, and it leans toward the lawless, as evidenced by the Taliban’s blatant presence in the region.
The contrast between ideals and reality here strikes me as hilarious. You’ve got to wonder if Hannah Montana knows that terrorists are using Hannah Montana bedsheets. And vice versa for the Taliban.
Reading the epilogue, I can’t help but think that Pakistan isn’t helping anybody when it cooperates with the Taliban. The Taliban may or may not do some policing for them, but it’s like letting the fox into the chicken coop, or letting the wolf be the shepherd.
